Dedicated Internet vs Broadband: What's Best for Your Business?

At Accessbolaget, we often get the question: What's the difference between broadband and dedicated internet access (DIA)? The choice between these two solutions depends entirely on your business's requirements for availability, reliability, and need for additional services. With today's increased dependence on stable internet connections, this choice can have a significant impact on your business operations. Here we clarify the differences.

Dedicated Internet Access (DIA)

Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) is a dedicated internet connection where you get guaranteed bandwidth between the operator's network and your business. It offers the possibility of service agreements and redundancy, as well as additional services such as 4G backup with public IP addresses (PI network) and operator-based DDoS protection. Through Accessbolaget, the service also includes proactive monitoring and feedback from support if any service impact occurs.

When should you choose Dedicated Internet Access?

Advantages:

Guaranteed availability and high reliability Possibility for more customized solutions Proactive monitoring and feedback

Disadvantages:
  • Usually higher price than broadband.

Business Broadband

Business broadband is a service similar to the broadband you have as a private individual. The service is delivered via automated interfaces and portals, and the connection often takes place through broadband networks where multiple service providers are available. Broadband is usually based on "best effort," which means there are no guarantees regarding capacity and response times, etc.

When should you choose broadband?

Advantages:
  • Usually lower prices than dedicated services and quick delivery
  • Suitable for businesses where internet is not critical to operations
Disadvantages:
  • No guaranteed response times
  • Limited support for additional services such as DDoS protection or 4G backup
  • Usually maximum of one IP address, static IP address is not always available

What should you consider?

When choosing communication services, it's important to compare the right types of services between different providers and review what's included in the service agreements.
